BUILD THE WALDORF PRESENCE ON THE INTERNET

WEB MASTER INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING E.LINKS AND WALDORFLINKS

Purpose          Corrections/Suggestions      Join e.Links/WaldorfLinks

Purpose and use of e.Links and the WaldorfLinks page
Our strategy to increase the presence of Waldorf web sites on the Internet is two-fold:

1. We want to encourage our web colleagues to add your web site to a general e.Links directory of Waldorf and anthroposophy related web sites at the Rudolf Steiner Archive and then to put a link to this directory on their site. This will increase your "links in" and "links out" and should boost your search ranking.

2. We want to encourage copying and duplicating the WaldorfLinks page to as many sites as possible on the Internet. This page contains comprehensive links, mostly in English, to Waldorf education and Waldorf schools, plus a number of sites offering general information on anthroposophy (the philosophical basis for Waldorf education) and Rudolf Steiner (the founder of Waldorf education).

We would like to spread the WaldorfLinks page across the Internet. Consequently, you may copy this page to your web site and link to it from one of your other pages (otherwise it won't be found by the web search bots and won't be indexed). The impact of many web sites linking to each other will, we believe, magnify the importance or ranking each web site has in search results. Thus adding one page with many "links out" to your site and having many other sites linking to your site ("links in") should boost everyone's search ranking. We are asking you to duplicate this page on your site, not just to link to the main copy at Waldorf Answers. We believe there is significantly more benefit to copying the page than merely linking to it.

Please follow the instructions below for what steps to take.

We intend to update the WaldorfLinks page to add new web sites and correct any errors, so this page will be updated every month or so. Note the "Last updated" date at the top. The master copy of the page is located at WaldorfAnswers web site. You can simply do File --> Save Page As... to copy the master page to your web site. We also ask that you subscribe to the WaldorfLinks Yahoo group, to receive notice of the availability of each new version.

Once you have included the WaldorfLinks.html on your web site and linked to it at least once, you can take advantage of the information it contains by linking to specific targets on the page. These are all listed in the Contents section.

If you would like your own web site to be included on this list (sorry if we missed it), please contact us. We reserve the right to screen all new web sites for suitability for our purpose.

For corrections or suggestions (new categories, new links, etc.)

If you notice something is incorrect on the WaldorfLinks page, or if you would like us to add your web site to the list, or if you have suggestions for improvements to this web page, so it will better serve your or others' use of it, please contact us. To get the most benefit from sharing your web link, follow the instructions below.

For new links, please tell us (1) the section you think it belongs in, (2) the descriptive wording you would like it to have (please be consistent with the style already adopted), and (3) the full URL to link to (one that is already on-line and accessible, please).

If your request may impact other users of the page, we may ask that you join the WaldorfLinks Yahoo group to get others' reactions. We reserve the right to screen all new web sites for suitability for our purpose.

To join and use e.Links and WaldorfLinks

To fully take advantage of e.Links and the WaldorfLinks page, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Add your web site to the Rudolf Steiner Archive e.Links, if you haven't already done so. Select the most appropriate category for your site and enter the information at "Add Your Site". This will then create a link to your web site from three or more "mirrored" web sites. Then add a link from your web site to the e.Links page (e.g. in your "Links" section).

Step 2: If your web site is not listed on the WaldorfLinks page or if the information we have is incorrect, contact us to add/correct it (see instructions in previous section). You do not need to wait for us to add or correct your site listing to go to the next steps.

Step 3: Copy the latestWaldorfLinks.html page to your web site (File --> Save Page As...); then add a link to this new local page from one of your existing pages (e.g. add it to your "Links" section). Upload the WaldorfLinks page and your updated pages to your web site.

You may want to change the WaldorfLinks page to better fit your web site. We advise against making too many changes because we recommend updating this page every time it changes (every several months or so). We want to make it easy for you to keep your copy of the page up to date.

One change that you can make will only need to be made once: to change the page's basic colors. You can do this by including two JPEG files of your choice to specify the page's colors. These are simple JPEGs consisting of 50x50 pixels of the desired colors. Then name one file Background02.jpg to specify the page margin color, and Background51.jpg to specify the color of the links table itself. If you do not include these files, the default colors are the light bluish green you see now. You need to do this only once: upload the two JPEGs to your web site and the new colors will immediately take effect. For an example of this, see the AWE web site's version of the link page.

Step 4: Join the WaldorfLinks Yahoo group (click "Join this Group"). This is a "members only" group but any web master can join. We promise to keep the discussion to a minimum, ideally only announcements every month or so of updates to the page.

Step 5: When updates are announced, download the latest version of WaldorfLinks and refresh the file on your web site.
